Do you have a smaller home that you would like to make look larger? There are several tricks that you can use to make your home appear larger to your guests and any prospective buyers. This can definitely be to your advantage when you are trying to sell a smaller home. You might even like the results enough to reduce that urgency of needing to move!

1. Using Light -- Bright lighting makes any space seem more inviting, relaxing and larger. In order to make a room look larger there should be plenty of light to suggest a feeling of being open and unenclosed. Focus lights on walls to make them look brighter. You might want to have controls to adjust the brightness of the lights in each room to meet your mood.

2. Minimize the Furniture -- Any rooms in the house with too much furniture in them will look smaller. The more congested a space is, the smaller it will appear. Make sure that your furniture is not crowded together in order to make the room look larger than it physically is. Avoid putting bulky armchairs and sofas in cramped spaces. To maximize space, try to use furniture that can serve more than one purpose. As an easy example, a footstool that has room inside for magazine storage avoids the need for space that would be needed for a second dedicated item.

3. Be Mindful of Your Choices in Decorator Items As Well -- The accessories you use to decorate your house have a big impact on how large or small it appears. Use curtains in a light color to allow plenty of light during the day. Select light colored furniture, or as an expedient you can use light colored covers and accent pieces for the furniture, since choosing light colors will generally give a more open feel to the space.

4. Paint Choices -- Use warm colors such as red, orange and browns. These colors can make a room look bigger and more open. To give a particular room extra depth, you might want to try the approach of using light shades on three walls and a coordinated darker tone on the fourth wall.

5. Mirrors -- Use wall and door mirrors to add depth to the room. This is one of the simplest tips ever. Mirrors can be beautiful in themselves, and they serve the additional and very pertinent purpose of making small rooms appear larger.

6. Storage -- Having efficient storage is important in limited spaces. The more clutter you have in your home, the smaller and less appealing it will look. Find storage systems that fit your family's needs. When you clean up the clutter, your house will instantly be more appealing to guests and homebuyers.

These tips can save you a lot of expense and effort in the making your home more presentable and marketable. In fact, these suggestions are among the best methods to improve your home with only a small outlay.
